After several leaks regarding the new Samsung tablet has surfaced online in the past few weeks, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd finally unveiled its latest competitor to Apple's iPads on Monday, the Galaxy Tab S2. 

The Galaxy Tab S2 is the company's thinnest and lightest tablet yet, coming in both 9.7-inch and 8.0-inch size options.The device is just 5.6mm thin and only 389g, compared to Apple's iPad Air 2 which is 6.1mm thick.

"The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features," JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics said in a press release. "We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere."

Samsung says the tablet is packed with powerful performance features that will enhance productivity and multitasking. The Galaxy Tab S2 comes preloaded with Microsoft Office Solutions, storing up to 100GB of files on the OneDrive cloud for two years for free. It also has the ability to view two apps at the same time, is compatible with the advanced Book Cover Keyboard and has a built-in trackpad for enhance usability when on-the-go.

The tablet is equipped with a 64-bit octo-core processor, consisting of Quad 1.9GHz + Quad 1.3GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM for a fast and responsive performance. The Tab S2, like Apple devices, has a touch-enabled Fingerprint Scanner to easily access the device by simply pressing the home key.

The Galaxy Tab S2 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, with a Super AMOLED display with a QXGA resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels for both size options, to deliver 94 percent of natural tones to show true-to-life colors. The Galaxy Tab S2 also has Adaptive Display to adjust gamma, saturation and sharpness when using an application, and a Reading Mode to adjust the screen's brightness level so that users can enjoy a book for longer periods of time without straining their eyes.

The Tab S2 has a 2.1MP front-facing camera, along with a 8MP AF rear camera. The tablets will be available in Wi-Fi only, as well as Wi-Fi and LTE variants.

The 9.7-inch option will have 5,870mAh battery, whereas the 8-inch will have 4,000mAH of battery power.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will be available in 32GB or 64GB options, with the option to add more memory—128GB to be exact—via microSD.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S2 was previously rumored to hit shelves in July; however, the company announced they will be available in August. The price for the new tablet is still unknown.
