To anyone who is looking to adopt a pet, there is an app available that should help with the task. Superfish is launching PetMatch for the iPhone, which uses visual search technology to show would-be pet owners adoptable pets in their area of residence.

The app is free to download and available now. It shows not only pictures of adoptable pets in users' area, but other information such as the breed they are and their dates of birth. The visual technology is patented by Superfish and uses image recognition to connect pets with new owners.

The pets the app focuses on, thus far, are cats and dogs. Users can take pictures of pets they want and the app will find similar ones available for adoption in the area of the users' residence. It even connects users to the adoption agency where the pets in question come from. It is also integrated with social media, such as Facebook and Instagram in order for users to take "Pelfies" with their new pets.

What is interesting about the app is that for many of us, we want specific pets or are picky about the breeds we like and the app can hook us up in this way. If we take a stroll down the park and see an adorable breed, we can take a snapshot, input it into the app and the app will find similar breeds available for adoption for us. This makes it easier for those of us who are not all keen on the specific breeds pets come from just by looking at them.

"Our vision is that visual search will allow people to use any picture as a starting point in their search to find exactly what they are looking for--in real time," says Adi Pinhas, CEO and founder of Superfish, the company behind the app. "PetMatch is a great example of the power of visual search and an important step in that direction. We wanted to help speed up the pet adoption process, cutting through the clutter of information on the web, and ultimately make the experience more efficient and more fun."

It seems that everything is being digitized these days and apps are forming bonds between not just people, but people and other creatures, in this case pets. This is a great way to use technology and make lives easier for pets wanting that special someone to adopt them and a place to call home.
