Samsung is working on a Virtual Reality headset, based on rumors, and the goal is to bring the product to market before Sony's Project Morpheus and Facebook's Oculus Rift. What Samsung is doing is in no way surprising, but plans to beat Sony and Facebook to market sounds silly.

As expected, the rumored Samsung VR headset will carry the Galaxy brand, which could give it an edge in the market place since the brand is widely known. Furthermore, the rumor states that several developers already have SDKs, which are powered by a flagship Galaxy device, though it is not certain which one.

We understand the consumer version of Samsung's VR headset will be powered by the company's next flagship smartphone or tablet. This should give an idea of how powerful these devices will be if they have the ability to power a VR headset.

If there is one thing Samsung is capable of doing better than the competition, it will be the display. The rumor claims that the Galaxy VR headset currently has an OLED display that is better or on the same level as the one found in the second generation Oculus Rift.

It is easy to see where Samsung got its idea from to build its own VR headset. Oculus VR was not too long ago purchased by Facebook, and Sony upped the ante with Project Morpheus. Furthermore, Samsung is also poised to make a lot of cash if VR headsets manage to become a hit in the marketplace. Already, we know that several hardware parts inside the Oculus Rift came from Samsung.

The big question on our minds is whether or not Samsung is capable of bringing a solid VR headset to market. Forgive us for not having much faith, but its past activities have shown how it operates. Remember the first Samsung smart watch? Appalling device, yet the company chose to throw it in the market and release a new one 5 months later.

We have a feeling Samsung will pull off a similar stunt. Release a lackluster VR headset before everyone else, then a better one 6 months down the line after seeing what the competition has done. We hope to be wrong, and so we will reserve ourselves until this rumor is proven true.
