OnePlus confirms that it will indeed start selling the OnePlus 2 on Aug. 11 to users who received invite codes for purchasing the company's latest flagship device.

However, users in North America will have to wait for around two to three weeks more for shipping to begin.

After first unveiling the handset in July, the company reportedly sold out 30,000 units to Chinese customers in a matter of 64 seconds. At that time, invites were not required for one to purchase a unit.

There are around 2 million people waiting for their chance to get their hands on the new flagship. Since the strong demand makes it a bit difficult for the company to keep up, it decided to delay shipment to North American consumers.

"The production of the OnePlus 2 is in full swing and we're excited to get the OnePlus 2 in your hands," says OnePlus on its forum page. "However we do want to tell our users in North America that due to production schedules, shipping to the States and Canada will commence two to three weeks after shipments to Europe."

Consumers who received the first batch of invite codes should be able to start placing their orders on Aug. 11. Those who are placing their orders from the U.S. and Canada will still be able to do so, although shipping is expected to begin two to three weeks after the scheduled shipments to Europe start.

The announcement caused mixed reactions from potential buyers. While there are those still willing to wait to get an invite, others are very disappointed and may resort to choosing Moto and Asus over OnePlus.

Still, 2 million people are queued for an invite. There are several reasons why consumers are willing to wait.

OnePlus 2 boasts a 5.5-inch display that features 401 ppi in order to deliver a crisp and colorful display. The result is akin to the iPhone 6 Plus' display with 401 ppi on its 5.5-inch screen. The latter is also covered by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass.

Other impressive features include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, Adreno 430 GPU, 4 GB RAM, 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera, dual-SIM capabilities, Alert Slider, fingerprint sensor, USB-C and "all-day" battery life.

The OnePlus 2 will come in versions of 16 GB and 64 GB and will retail at $329 and $389 respectively. It will start rolling out to consumers in the UK, Europe and India on Aug. 11, while consumers from North America will have to wait until late Aug. or early September. The device is also coming to customers in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore in the latter part of 2015.
