Apple will reportedly stick to 16GB as the base-level storage capacity for its upcoming iPhone 6s and not alter it to 32GB as previously rumored.
There have been conflicting reports as to whether the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will have 16GB or 32GB as its base capacity.
Per a report from Apple World Today, which cites Leaksfly, Apple will continue with the 16GB model for another year. So basically, the next-gen iPhone and not the impending iPhone 6s will likely have 32GB as its entry-level capacity.
Moreover, the publication also cites sources from China Mobile and asserts that the iPhone 6s will come in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models.
Earlier in July, we reported that going forward Apple was pulling the plug on 16GB phones and all of the base models of the company would have a capacity of 32GB instead. The information had emerged from Apple's supply chain sources which also divulged that the stickers on the impending iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus packages were marked 32GB, 64GB or 128GB.
Rumors have been rife that Apple is considering changing the next-gen iPhone's storage from the paltry 16GB to 32GB, especially after the release of iOS 8 in 2014 which took up 4.6GB. The OS ate up ample space on user's devices, which left iPhone 6 users with 16GB models very little storage capacity.
Taking a cue from this issue, Apple would likely have a plan in place prior to rolling out iOS 9 and will ensure that iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users with base 16GB capacity do not have to battle the same problem.
Reports also hint at preorders of the iPhone 6s starting Sept. 18 in China and the device will hit the shelves a week later in the region on September 25. Chinese carriers China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom are expected to retail the handset.
As Leaksfly's Weibo posted, the 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants of the iPhone 6s will cost CNY 5,299 (approximately $833), CNY 5,999 (approximately $943) and CNY 6,599 (approximately $1037), respectively.
