Trailers can be very important for moving house or simply moving big objects. They do, however, leave a huge blind spot right behind the vehicle that the driver has to deal with on the road.

Land Rover, however, has realized this and has come up with a way to make the rear blind spot non-existent through a series of well-placed cameras.

"Our prototype system offers a very high quality video image with no distortion of other cars or obstructions," said Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology at Jaguar Land Rover, in a statement. "This means the driver would have exactly the right information to make safe and effective decisions when driving or maneuvering, making towing safer and less stressful."

The system basically uses the Land Rover's already existent rear-view camera, along with the cameras on the side mirrors. Another wireless camera is placed on the back of the trailer or whatever else the vehicle is towing.

By the looks of a video that Land Rover published, the system almost entirely eliminates the problem blind spot, combining all the cameras in use into a LCD screen that acts as a rear-view mirror. Not only can users see what's behind them, but they can also see a ghost-like outline of their trailer, enabling them to ensure that everything is in good shape.

The software itself is pretty remarkable because it ensures that the images aren't distorted in any way, despite the fact that the cameras are capturing footage from all different views and angles. This, of course, is important because it helps the driver stay aware of what is happening around the vehicle.

It's important to note that the technology is still in prototype phase and is still being tested by Land Rover. It's not yet known when we will see a version of the tech released to the public.
