Several of the major tech companies are working on a smartwatch, so it is safe to assume that Apple is doing the same thing. We've seen increased interest in this niche, so it comes as no surprise to learn from a new rumor that Apple plans to release its own smartwatch device in October.

The report of Apple launching its smartwatch in October came from the ever reliable, John Paczkowski. This man has been very consistent in his rumor-mongering as of late, which makes us want to believe what he's saying is true.

Apparently, this new smartwatch from Apple is expected to make full use of the new HealthKit app announced with iOS 8, and it would even make more sense if this Apple device makes use of HomeKit as well. The report also claims that Apple is aiming to announce its smartwatch at a special event, and it will be held in the same month the watch will be available for the public.

Additionally, Nikkei is reporting a similar thing, which gives this rumor a lot more weight that it previously had. Furthermore, Nikkei claims that Apple is very confident in its smartwatch, and is planning to sell around 3 million to 5 million units per month after launch.

If Apple is able to sell that much units per month, then the Cupertino giant would have successfully transformed the smartwatch market into something that is worth millions. At the moment, no one wants a smartwatch because there's not a single smartwatch available right now that is worth owning.

Samsung has tried several times and failed. It is clear the company's first foray with the Galaxy Gear was a clear case of being first before Apple, because the device was a complete mess, if we're going to be blunt about this.

As of now, only Google's plans for its Android wearables appear to have its bases covered. The search company's ambitions are huge but we may not see everything that Google promises to deliver right away. As for Apple, we certainly have no idea what the company is planning but we don't have to wait so long.
