It seems that Google is not the only company that will be undergoing a logo change, as Verizon revealed that it will also be updating its logo.

The new logo, which was designed by agency Pentagram, shortens the large checkmark on the top portion of the previous logo and moves it to the right, after the name of the company. The red Z has also now been changed to black to make all the letters of the company's name the same color.

The change was released internally on Sept. 3 before it released a statement and video the same day explaining the new logo, which was designed by the agency Pentagram.

"Today, we're introducing a new look to go along with our renewed purpose at Verizon," the company's statement said, adding that as its customers and business evolve, so should Verizon.

The statement also said that the new logo includes the best elements of the heritage of Verizon, which is represented by the colors black and red, along with the checkmark, and transforms them for the new era.

"It's a cleaner, more human design and the checkmark, the universal symbol for getting things done, uniquely expresses the reliability of Verizon," the statement ends.

"We wanted to stay true to who we are and kind of connect our present to our future," said by a spokeswoman for Verizon, Kim Ancin, to Adweek. "It's more of an evolution and a refresh than a completely new logo."

According to Pentagram partner and designer Michael Bierut, Verizon is looking to communicate the values of simplicity, reliability and a focus on customers with the new logo, as the old logo that Verizon began using 15 years ago was complicated and inconsistently used.

Bierut said that the new logo was designed to be easily reproduced on both large scales and small scales, whether for print media, online channels, or any other usage.

Bierut added that Verizon's new logo will come with a new tone from Verizon, with the company looking to project a livelier and friendlier corporate image.

While sentiments towards Google's new logo have been mixed, the new logo for Verizon has been receiving mostly negative reactions.

John Legere, the CEO of T-Mobile, also had a say on Verizon's new logo. The larger-than-life Legere did not disappoint his character.
