The rumor mill appears to be more confirmed now, as Amazon.com is readying for a June 18 launch of its first smartphone. And the buzz over the innovative features has the tech world already expecting great things from the device. It is reported to be delivering the first smartphone with 3D effects thanks to four front-mounted IR cameras.

While that has been largely expected after rumors began to be published over the past few weeks for what Amazon was planning to show the world later this month, reports also indicate that Amazon is to be employing Omron's Okao Vision sensor technology that will track a user's head.

Based on a TechCrunch report on the now confirmed and what is to be the world's first 3D smartphone, Amazon has taken the Japanese company's tech and modified it internally to help it function in a smartphone.

This will give an innovative feel for a stereoscopic effect from a standard LCD screen. Think about watching a 3D film on your smartphone. It could be coming sooner rather than later.

As per TechCrunch, which has consistently reported the launch of the Amazon smartphone, "a user can tilt the smartphone or their head left or right to browse and access hidden side panels."

Amazon, in announcing the launch, has also issued a marketing video that gives a few caveats on what to expect, and many are looking forward to getting their hands on the device as soon as possible.

Amazon, however, has not announced as of yet, a date the phone could be on the shelves and this is expected to come with the June 18 presentation of the new smartphone, the company's first foray into the sector.

The phone, according to a leaked photo, looks sleek, black and thin. And the addition of the front sensors could be a huge boost for the phone to deliver what Amazon claims to be promising.

Amazon is also planning to unveil a new wireless data plan with the phone, being dubbed Prime Data. While details of the new plan have not been fully revealed, the unnamed sources said that it is likely to be part of similar options, for example AT&T's "sponsored data plan" that lets users have access to Prime-branded services on their phone, without using up their data as part of their monthly plans.

The idea is to reduce the costs of using data, which still remains high in comparison to how other costs of smartphones have dropped in recent years.

Still, the launch of the Amazon smartphone, one with 3D capability, could be a game changer and has the top smartphone companies such as Apple, Samsung and HTC likely fretting. A phone that some experts say could become the standard-bearer of the industry.
