With the second season premiere of The Flash only a mere few weeks away, The CW has released a bevy of new pics with some behind-the-scenes shots of the cast in action, which showcase faces old and new — including one that might come as a bit of a surprise. 

While news on new cast members for season two of The Flash have been all over the Internet over the past few months, these particular photos give us a glimpse at the supervillain the Atom Smasher (Adam Copeland) and the titular superhero himself (Grant Gustin) going head to head, as well as some old faces, like S.T.A.R. Labs scientists Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), cop and Barry Allen's surrogate father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), love interest and journalist Iris West (Candice Patton) and some old nemeses like Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).

Also bizarrely not in absentia is Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash/Professor Harrison Wells (played by both Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher in season one). In the finale episode aired this past May, Eobard essentially wiped his existence off the face of the earth (or, keeping in line with The Flash's fictive multiverse, Earth-1), so Cavanagh's return after his stint as The Flash's freshman year Big Bad is surprising, to say the least.

Season 2 of The Flash will air on The CW on October 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
