The last Attack on Titan game, subtitled "Humanity in Chains" and released on the Nintendo 3DS, wasn't all that great. But with the ever-increasing popularity of the manga and anime, it's no suprise that another Attack on Titan game is on the horizon.

This one shows some promise. For starters, the game looks beautiful running on the PlayStation 4, capturing the look and feel of the anime perfectly. The developers at Koei Tecmo hope to faithfully capture the anime's storyline as well.

It's for that reason the game will be looking to strictly follow the first season of the Attack on Titan anime. Speaking with IGN, producer Hisashi Koinuma says the game will not incorporate original elements or those seen in the live-action Attack on Titan films. It also won't dive into spoiler territory for the anime, ending the game's story with Season 1. Considering that Season 2 has yet to be released, that should come as welcome news for fans.

If a sequel is made, fans can maybe expect some changes from the source material. Speaking with Kotaku, Koinuma had this to say:

"The first game needs to follow the source material, but the later sequels can incorporate more and more original elements. That way, the fans will come along as the game version progresses."

Koinuma said that was what the developer did with its One Piece game adaptations. He added that adapting the anime has been a challenge so far, with the main difficulties coming from the difference in scale between the humans and titans, as well as accurately representing the movement of characters using the 3D maneuver gear.

So far, the results of Koei Tecmo's labor look promising. The action is fast and fluid and the graphics capture the look of the show. You can check out some gameplay footage of the title in action below. Attack on Titan will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita in 2016.
