Comic book writer Bill Finger will finally get the credit he deserves.

DC Entertainment announced on Sept. 18 that the legendary comic strip and comic book writer will be given proper credit in upcoming movies and TV series, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Gotham.

Milton "Bill" Finger is known for co-creating the DC Comics superhero Batman alongside Bob Kane. He is credited for creating the name of the Dark Knight's alter ego Bruce Wayne, and was influential in other aspects of character development, such as suggesting Batman have a cape and not wings and removed the red in the original costume. He also co-created Robin, Catwoman, Two-Face, Riddler and the iconic villain the Joker.

Along with having a major creative influence on the early days of Batman, he also co-created Green Lantern.

Although he played a role in the creation of Batman, Kane was the only one to receive official credit as part of an original deal in 1939. Still, Kane did acknowledge Finger's contribution, revealing in his 1989 autobiography that he never got the "fame and recognition he deserved."

Finger died in 1974, but his legacy will continue with him getting official credit for his work. Marc Tyler Nobleman's biography on the comic book writer titled Boy Wonder: The Secret Co-Creator of Batman helped push the decision to include Finger's name in the credits.

DC Entertainment released the following statement to the Hollywood Reporter:

DC Entertainment and the family of Bill Finger are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement that recognizes Mr. Finger's significant contributions to the Batman family of characters.

"Bill Finger was instrumental in developing many of the key creative elements that enrich the Batman universe, and we look forward to building on our acknowledgement of his significant role in DC Comics' history," stated Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. "As part of our acknowledgement of those contributions, we are pleased to confirm today that Bill Finger will be receiving credit in the Warner Bros. television series Gotham beginning later this season, and in the forthcoming motion picture Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

DC Entertainment previously gave Finger cover credit in the July 2014 reprint of Detective Comics #27, where Batman made his first appearance.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released March 25, 2016, and Season 2 of Gotham will air Monday, Sept. 21 on Fox.
