Leaked images of an upcoming OnePlus handset, dubbed the OnePlus 2 Mini, suggest that the smartphone will come with dual-LED flash, USB Type-C and fingerprint scanner.
OnePlus launched its first handset the OnePlus One in April 2014, which gained a lot of popularity in the smartphone market. It took a while for the Chinese smartphone maker to launch the successor of the handset, the OnePlus 2, which was unveiled in July 2015. Pete Lau, the co-founder and CEO of OnePlus, had previously confirmed that the company will launch another handset in 2015.
"We have another phone planned for this year, but will provide details soon," said Lau.
Carl Pei, the co-founder and global head of OnePlus, indicated that another handset is in the pipeline.
"There's going to be a second phone this year, before the end of the year. Hopefully for Christmas," says Pei.
Rumors of the OnePlus 2 Mini have been surfacing in the smartphone industry for quite some time. Now, Chinese website Mobile-Dad has leaked images of the handset.
Specs of the purported OnePlus 2 Mini have not been revealed, but from the leaked images it seems that the mobile phone will include two audio speakers at the bottom. A circular fingerprint scanner is seen at the back of the smartphone along with dual-LED camera flash.
It seems from the leaked render that the upcoming OnePlus 2 Mini will also get a USB Type-C connector.
The OnePlus 2 boasts a 5.5-inch IPC LCD display with 1,920 by 1,080 resolution. Being a smaller version of the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus 2 Mini is highly likely to have a smaller screen.
A powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB of RAM powers the OnePlus 2. A 3,300mAh battery fuels the OnePlus flagship. The OnePlus 2 Mini may include a slightly less speedy processor and a smaller battery.
The OnePlus 2 has a competitive starting price tag of $329. Smartphone lovers will expect that the mini version of the smartphone will have a lower price. Previous rumors have suggested that the OnePlus 2 Mini will cost $249.
While OnePlus has not confirmed a launch and release date for the OnePlus 2 Mini, smartphone enthusiasts will hope to see the phone just in time for the holiday season.
