Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 owners on AT&T are in for a treat, as the update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is rolling out now.

Just a few days ago, we reported that Verizon Wireless was pushing Android 5.1.1 to its version of the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and now it's AT&T's turn to do the same.

The OTA firmware for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop has officially started rolling out according to AT&T's support notes, bringing a number of changes, tweaks and improvements to the tablet.

Keep in mind that updates roll out gradually and it may take a while for all Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 tablets on AT&T to receive the update prompt. Nevertheless, the update is on its way and should hit more devices soon.

The package weighs in at 867MB and requires a stable and reliable Wi-Fi connection to ensure the update installation process goes smoothly and without interruptions. It's also recommended to have your device charged at least 50 percent so it doesn't run out of battery in the middle of the update.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update includes the previous Android 5.0 and adds more enhancements.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 owners can expect to get better Wi-Fi and Bluetooth management thanks to the updated Quick Settings, more animations than the 5.0 update, improved notifications and screen pinning, as well as device security and stability enhancements with upgraded security software and better memory management.

At the same time, the update adds AT&T Messages, New YP VPL and AT&T Messages VPL, but removes some previously-installed apps such as WatchOn, Beats Music and Famigo. This app removal only affects customers who reset the device, AT&T points out.

The update will further bring the usual mix of bug fixes and enhancements to improve the tablet's overall performance.

If you have yet to receive the update notification and would like to manually check for the update's availability, you can do so by accessing your device's Menu > Settings > About Device > Software Version > Check for Updates. If the new software still doesn't appear, it means it will just take a bit longer for the update to be ready for your AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, but it shouldn't take too long.
