Samsung's Gear VR is set to get a slew of streaming apps to boost its media capabilities, with Netflix, Hulu, Vimeo and Twitch all announcing that they will be releasing apps for the platform.

The Netflix app will be available starting today, with other apps to be released in the near future. All of these apps will allow users to stream content straight to their Gear VR.

While the Netflix app will be available starting today, it doesn't seem as though the app will be very VR specific and will simply play video inside of the Samsung Gear VR. Hulu, however, has announced that in addition to its standard content being viewable on the Gear VR, it will also be offering "original virtual reality short-form content" and "unique viewing environments created for VR devices."

Along with the new streaming apps, Samsung also announced a new version of the Gear VR headset, bringing prices down to $99, which makes it much more accessible. The new headset is compatible with the entire 2015 line of Samsung smartphones, far better than the previous version, which was only available on the Galaxy S6 and the Note 4.
