With the release of this summer's celebrated Mad Max sequel Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller seems to once again be the director everyone wants to work with. Rumors have swirled about Miller's association with the upcoming Superman movie sequel Man of Steel 2, and now, it looks like the famed Australian director could have been at the helm of another film that has long been rumored to be in the making.

Miller recently told Yahoo Movies UK that he discussed the live action remake of Akira with Warner Bros., but he ultimately said he doesn't have room in his schedule to work on it.

"There was talk of it [the live action Akira]," Miller told Yahoo Movies UK, "But I've got so many things on my dance card, I don't have the time to do everything."

Miller also cleared up reports that the iconic 1988 anime influenced Mad Max: Fury Road.

"Actually, I didn't [say Akira was an influence on Fury Road], I don't know where that came from," Miller told Yahoo Movies UK. "I'm a huge fan of anime and the precision of that and to some degree Manga, even though I don't read Japanese, but just the aesthetic of it. So Akira might have been one of the many movies but it certainly wasn't one that directly influenced Mad Max."

Set in a dystopian city called Neo-Tokyo and involving biker gangs and people with telekinetic powers, Akira sounds right up Miller's alley. Unfortunately, it sounds like we'll only get to see what Miller would have done with a live action remake of this beloved anime in our dreams.

However, enough high-profile people are constantly reported to be involved with this project to keep the rumor mill going, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Marvel's Daredevil co-showrunner Marco J. Ramirez and, most recently, Christopher Nolan. Maybe one of these days, we'll actually get a movie out of all of this buzz.
