Pathologic is probably one of the best video games that you haven't played. Developed by Ice-Pick Lodge and released in 2005, the psychological survival horror title won five major awards in its native Russia, but its English language version didn't do as well, due to poor translation.

Now, 10 years later, Pathologic is back, and this time it's getting the full HD remastered treatment — along with all new English dialogue and narration. Ice-Pick Lodge partnered with Gambitious Digital Entertainment and General Arcade to bring Pathologic Classic HD to gamers who have already played the title and to those who never got the chance.

Pathologic's return comes thanks to a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign that launched last year.

The player's journey in Pathologic begins in a dark town full of old tanneries and butcheries. A mysterious and highly infectious disease begins killing the town's residents. Local authorities send out three agents to look into the outbreak, as well as a few volunteers.

"Along with the authorities' agents, two volunteers find their way through the town along with the learned doctor, who goes by the name of The Bachelor," writes Ice-Pick Lodge in a press release. "One of them, The Changeling, is a strange girl who believes she can heal with her hands, and the other, The Haruspex, is a talented amateur who's fond of experimental surgery."

Players take on one of these roles and explore the town, uncovering its weirdness and inhabitants.

Time is however against the player, who has only 12 days to defeat an invisible enemy that can't be overcome by conventional means. And then comes the worst realization of all: there's no way to save everybody.

A press release provides further information on the title:

"Pathologic Classic HD is an extensive remaster of the original game, featuring updated graphics and effects, while addressing the most prominent critiques of the original with a completely redone English script, brand new re-recorded voice-overs and reinstated dialogue. Released in anticipation of the Kickstarted Pathologic Remake that Ice-Pick Lodge is currently working on, Pathologic Classic HD allows gamers to experience the old masterpiece in a definitive way."

Pathologic Classic HD will release sometime this fall on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. It will retail for $12.99 at Steam, Gog and the Humble Store.
