Meat enthusiasts that love to cook their own dishes most definitely would see meat thermometers as very valuable tools in the kitchen. Apption Labs, meanwhile, has taken the meat thermometer and made it so much better.

Apption Labs created the Meater smart meat thermometer, which the company says is the only wireless one out in the market today. It is designed to guarantee users with perfectly-cooked meat every time, which would be an exciting thing for meat lovers.

The Kickstarter page for the crowdfunding campaign of the Meater already says much about how popular it could be, as with 12 days to go in the campaign, the Meater has already surpassed its $100,000 goal by over four times, raising nearly $450,000 at the time of writing.

The components of the Meater are all stored inside it, so users will simply have to stick it into the meat before cooking. The internal sensors of the Meater can register as high as 212 degrees Fahrenheit, while the external component of the probe can register as high as 527 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes the Meater possible to be used in the oven, on the grill, on the smoker, or anywhere else that users would cook their meat on.

According to Apption Labs, the meat itself helps in insulating the Meater and all the internal electronics of the thermometer. Similar to other smart thermometers, the device uses Bluetooth connectivity to connect to the user's Android or iOS device.

The Meater, however, only has a 33-foot range in its functionality. This might not be enough for users that would be heading in and out of the house from the grill to the kitchen, for example. Apption Labs already thought of the issue beforehand and has also developed the Meater Block, which is able to hold up to four units and can connect the Meater to the home's Wi-Fi network. This would make sure that the user will receive the notifications about the meat being cooked.

Apption Labs also took into account the fact that the internal temperature of the meat will continue to increase even once it is taken out of the oven or off the grill. As such, the Meater can also estimate the resting temperature of the meat, to tell users the best time to take the meat off the heat before risking the meat turning out to be overcooked. The system is accurate to within 1 degree Fahrenheit.

The Meater is water resistant for cleaning purposes, but it is not dishwasher safe. It can last for up to 48 hours of continuous use before needing to recharge.

Interested meat lovers can still join the Kickstarter campaign, with a $59 pledge good for one Meater probe and a $129 pledge good for the Meater Block and two probes, with expected delivery by January of next year.
