Becoming a Super Saiyan doesn't have the same prestige that it once did. Goku first donned the gold, spiky hair of the Super Saiyan in order to defeat the galactic tyrant Frieza. It was a big deal at the time, but since then Goku has achieved multiple levels of Super Saiyan, as have Vegeta and both of their children.

It's to be expected. The creators have to keep inventing new, more powerful enemies for Goku and friends to face, and so Goku and the rest of the gang have to keep getting stronger. Being a Super Saiyan as a result isn't as impressive as it used to be.

It is, however, pretty impressive for a character that has no Saiyan blood whatsoever to become one. That's kind of the main reason everybody on the show isn't one. Being a Saiyan is a requirement...or it was one.

For the first time ever, it looks like a non-Saiyan character may be going Super Saiyan, and that character is non other than Hercule.

Yes, that Hercule, the guy who often serves as comic relief for the series. Known as Mr. Satan in Japan, Hercule is often referred to as "the strongest man alive." He is, however, human, and thus unable to compete with Goku and the rest of the Z fighters who have Saiyan blood flowing through their veins. See the below image of him kicking Cell, for example. Cell doesn't even move, even as he is being kicked in the face. Poor Hercule talks a big game, but he simply can't hold a candle to the more powerful characters on the show.

Until now, that is. We don't yet know all the details, but a short preview (via Kotaku) for the next episode of Dragon Ball Super teases that Mr. Satan will indeed go Super Saiyan, complete with a golden mustache. Dragon Ball Super is currently airing in Japan.

It's not clear if this is some kind of dream sequence, a hallucination or the real deal, but it is certainly out of left field for longtime fans of the manga and anime series. If it's not a dream of some sort, what does this mean? How can a normal human become a Super Saiyan? If Hercule can do it, why not Krillin, Tien or, God help us, Yamcha? Where does it end?

All will be revealed in due time, but until then, just take a moment to let the above image soak in. We truly live in exciting (and confusing) times.
