Scientists conducted a study to identify Saltmarsh and Nelson’s Sparrow hybrids and found that appearance alone cannot confirm whether a specie is a hybrid or not. The researchers highlight the importance of DNA testing in order to accurately identify the Saltmarsh and Nelson’s Sparrows as either pure or half-bred, to further ensure a secure future for the high conservation priority species.
