Google unwrapped the Nexus 6P alongside its smaller sibling the Nexus 5X on Sept. 29. The Huawei-built Nexus 6P started to land on buyers' houses on Nov. 2, and now, consumers are beginning to report problems, including spontaneous rear glass panel cracking.

One buyer with the handle jonny_rat took to Reddit to gripe about the problem, saying his phone's back glass window has just spontaneously broken.

"Well that was a surprise. For me, and the cat," writes jonny_rat, attaching an image to back his claim. "It was [sitting] on a table next to me when I heard the glass snap, leaving a little snowfall of shavings on the table under it. It's now continuing to crack away to itself."

Another Nexus 6P owner, who made a Reddit account just to join the discussion, commented on jonny_rat's post, indicating he thought he was the only one experiencing the issue. Backglasscrack123 shared that he currently has a case open with Google. Google has forwarded the user's concern to Huawei to resolve the issue. Backglasscrack123 likewise attached a photo to show the rear glass panel cracking on his Nexus 6P.

Reddit user freshprinceofsf also commented on the original post, saying the same problem happened the very first night he got the phone. Here's how his Nexus 6P's rear glass panel looks like:

Another Nexus 6P owner took to Twitter to report the same experience, but did not append a photo to substantiate the matter.

Additionally, an Android Police reader commented on the site's post, saying the front glass panel of his Nexus 6P broke upon taking an airline flight. Just like with the other user who complained to Google, he was redirected to Huawei for the issue.

It is worth noting, though, that if the spontaneous cracking of the Nexus 6P's glass panels is a result of a defect on the phone's design, then these must be covered by the standard hardware warranty. Since the users' phones are still covered by the warranty period, then they are entitled to a free repair or  eplacement, as long as they can prove to Google or Huawei that these problems did not crop up because of rough handling.
