Things must have been stressful for David Hasselhoff for most of his life because on Nov. 12, he announced something that gave him a huge relief: he has officially removed the "Hassel" from his name and is now simply known as David Hoff.

"The Hoff" was just kidding, right?

The 63-year-old star known for his red shorts-wearing role in "Baywatch" tweeted the big announcement with a link to a YouTube video. In the vid, he says that he had been wanting to drop the hassle from his life for years.

"Now, I have made it official," he adds, holding up a Certificate of Name Change with the name "David Hoff" written on it.

If you're thinking it's probably a publicity stunt, you are correct.

David Hasselhoff's representative made it known that the video is an excerpt of something that the actor has been working on and to stay tuned for more. The ad campaign will launch in Australia this weekend so Hasselhoff probably wanted to get people intrigued enough to stay tuned. "David is just having some fun and more will be revealed in the next 24 hours," his representative said.

His YouTube video received some mixed reactions, with some getting completely surprised at the announcement, thinking The Hoff was serious, and some others who got in on the joke quickly. "You're Hassel free!!!! Hahaha!" one user commented.

The Hoff's more recent projects include "Ted 2" and "Sharknado 3," as well as an appearance in Simple Plan and Nelly's music video for the song "I Don't Want to Go to Bed," which has a "Baywatch"-themed video. We would show you the video but we would rather have you watch The Hoff in all his comedic glory in the outtakes.  Another project for The Hoff this Christmas season is the pantomime production of Peter Pan in Scotland's SECC Clyde Auditorium where he will play Pan's archnemesis Captain Hook along with panto favorites, The Krankies and Michelle McManus.
