The Sony Xperia Z3+ is finally making its way to the U.S., available now for purchase unlocked, in two color options.

The company's Xperia Z4 smartphone never got a proper launch. The handset quietly launched in Japan and it received plenty of criticism because many felt it was not a big enough update over its Xperia Z3 predecessor. This could be one of the reasons Sony chose to rebrand the Xperia Z4 as the Xperia Z3+ outside of Japan.

Up until now, the Sony Xperia Z3+ was expected and confirmed for the U.S. market, but was still MIA. The smartphone finally became available for purchase now, sporting a price tag of $499.99 unlocked.

It's worth pointing out that although the Xperia Z3+ appears on Sony's U.S. website, it's still not available directly from the company's online store. Instead, interested customers will have to make their purchase through B&H Photo Video. More specifically, the Sony Store does have a "Buy now" button, but it just redirects customers to B&H. The retailer currently offers only the black and white variants of the smartphone, with the copper and aqua green avatars listed as "out of stock."

As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z3+ comes with a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display sporting a full HD resolution (1080p), an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor running at 2GHz, Adreno 430 graphics and 3 GB of RAM.

Other specs include 32 GB of internal storage capacity, expandable up to 128 GB via microSD, a 20.7-megapixel main camera with LED flash, autofocus and 4K video recording, a 5.1-megapixel front camera and a 2,930 mAh battery.

The smartphone is also IP68-certified for dust and water resistance, adding to the overall durability. On the software front, the Sony Xperia Z3+ comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop on board out of the box, but will receive an update to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the coming months.

That said, the Xperia Z3+ is no longer the latest flagship device from Sony, since the Xperia Z5 lineup made its debut a little while back, but it's still a highly capable device that may attract plenty of customers. It remains unclear at this point when the other two color options will become available for purchase, but for now interested customers can buy the black or the white versions of the handset.
