Windows 10 Mobile fans who want to take the Xiaomi Mi 4 for a spin will soon be able to as the Android-powered smartphone is set to come in a new OS avatar.

Come Thanksgiving, the Chinese smartphone maker's iPhone lookalike smartphone will allegedly hit the shelves but powered by the Windows 10 Mobile instead of Android.

Earlier in March this year, Microsoft and Xiaomi had divulged that they were working on an "experimental program" for Windows Phone buffs who would be keen on seeing the latest version of the OS installed on the Xiaomi Mi 4.

Now per a GSMDome report, it seems that the experiment has been successful and the two are looking to release the Windows 10 Mobile-powered variant of the Xiaomi Mi 4 on Saturday, Nov. 28 this year i.e. Thanksgiving.

The news comes courtesy of a Microsoft employee in China, who posted an image of the Xiaomi Mi 4 running on the preview build of the latest Windows OS on Weibo - the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.

The Microsoft Operating System Software Engineer Institute Director, under the Weibo moniker TheRenaissanceMan, also posted the message "Thanksgiving holiday is coming soon. Windows 10 for Xiaomi beta is not far away" along with the image.

The Microsoft employee is reportedly responsible for the OS' development and, therefore, the information is potentially accurate.

The 5-inch Xiaomi Mi 4 is currently the company's flagship smartphone. The Chinese OEM is said to be targeting a December introduction for the next-gen Xiaomi Mi 5; however, the smartphone will only release in 2016.

Whether Xiaomi will officially re-release the Mi 4 running on Windows 10 Mobile OS remains circumspect. In the event it does, a possibility exists that the company will give the smartphone a new name. Xiaomi already has the Mi 4i and a Mi 4c smartphones and could follow this naming pattern.

Alternately, Xiaomi may choose to release the final version of the Windows 10 Mobile build as a downloadable update for any individual who has the Mi 4.

With Thanksgiving a week away, we will soon know if Xiaomi takes the plunge.
