Reports indicate that the 7-inch Amazon Fire tablet dominated Black Friday sales, placing the Amazon product way ahead of Apple's iPad.

Info Scout, a company that develops apps that permit users to photograph and manage their sales receipts, provided the numbers.

On both Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the 7-inch Fire (8 GB version) was the best seller. Amazon's tablet stayed ahead of the platoon in number of units and sales volume alike. Another vendor who reported the Fire as a leader in unit sales was Best Buy.

Archives show that in 2014 and 2013, the iPad was the king of the hill during Black Friday, with little competition from rival tablet brands. But things changed in 2015, after Amazon announced the release of the 7-inch Fire tablet.

"A powerful tablet at an incredible price" means that its manufacturer usually sells it for $50, but due to the fact that it was Black Friday, Best Buy and Amazon put a $35 price tag on the device, making it sell like hotcakes.

Specs show that the tablet has a 7-inch display which offers a 1,024 x 600 resolution, at 171 ppi. The quad-core processor runs at 1.3 GHz, and the default storage capacity is 8 GB, but it can be upgraded up to 128 GB with a microSD card.

"Free unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with Fire devices" is something else that Amazon offers to its clients.

The company also updated the user interface, so that Fire OS 5 ensures quick access to your apps and content, as well as personalized recommendations, helping you discover new content tailored to your preferences. The optimized hardware-software combo grants seven hours of continuous reading, video-watching, music-listening or web surfing. The two rear- and front-faced cameras can turn the 7-inch tablet into an image snapper instantly.

"It's simply the best value tablet you can buy right now," Jamie Rigg from Engadget concluded earlier this year.

After analyzing 151,337 receipts from Thanksgiving night and Black Friday, Info Scout gave a "quick read on this year's hottest items," taking into account both unit sales and dollar sales of every major retailer.

Other names on the company's list of receipts were: Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam's Club, Kohl's and Amazon.
