There are plenty of drivers who are still on the fence about making the jump from a gas-powered car to all electric.

Hyundai might have the solution for those drivers. On Monday, Hyundai introduced its Ioniq alternative-fuel compact vehicle, slated for a 2016 launch.

What makes the Ioniq especially intriguing is it comes standard equipped with three electrified powertrains choices: all-electric, plug-in gasoline/electric hybrid or gasoline/electric hybrid powertrain, making it the first car from any automaker to offer three powertrain options in one body type, according to Hyundai.

"Hyundai Motor has a heritage of building innovative, fuel-efficient vehicles, so we are proud to advance our eco-friendly car line-up with the introduction of Ioniq," Woong-Chul Yang, the head of Hyundai's research and development center, said in a company press release. "Our vision for future mobility focuses on choice, with a variety of powertrain options to suit customers' varied lifestyles, without compromising on design or driving enjoyment. Ioniq embodies Hyundai Motor's vision to shift the automotive paradigm and future mobility. Ioniq is the fruit of our efforts to become the leader in the global green car market."

As part of the company's announcement, it broke down how it came to name the car the Ioniq. Ion because an ion is an electrically-charged atom, which Hyundai explains links to "the car's clever combination of electrified powertrains," 'Ni' because of its unique offering and the 'Q' for its depiction in the vehicle's logo as a visual breakthrough.

The Ioniq will make its world premiere in Korea next month, before being shown at the Geneva International Motor Show and New York Auto Show, both in March 2016.
