With Star Wars: The Force Awakens less than a week away, Google Chrome has released an app that can transform your ordinary smartphone into a lightsaber, the weapon of choice for members of the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire alike.

Named Lightsaber Escape, the Google Chrome experiment calibrates the smartphone when users visit the specified URL on their mobile browser and their desktop or laptop to connect the phone. Lightsaber wielders-to-be then must hold the phone vertically with both hands, then initiate the change with the click of a button that pops up on the site.

After that, players can battle imperial Stormtroopers on the recreated Star Destroyer via their computer screens after a brief tutorial.

The project was done in collaboration with Google and Disney, the parent company of Lucasfilm. Due in part to this, you don't necessarily have to have the Google Chrome browser to duke it out like a member of the Rebel Alliance.
