The HTC EVO 3D didn't fare too well in the smartphone market, but an incident in Florida has earned it a fan for life.

The police authorities in Winter Garden, Florida, said that an HTC cellphone has saved a gas station clerk from a robber's bullet aimed at his abdomen.

The robbery attempt took place around 4.30am on Monday morning. A man entered a gas station and asked the clerk for help. Suddenly the robber flashed a revolver and demanded that the clerk open the safe. When the clerk was unable to open the safe, the robber ordered a second clerk to try and open it. After the second clerk failed as well, the robber fled from the store, but on his way out, turned and fired a single shot at the clerks.

According to Winter Garden Lt. Scott Allen, one of the clerks had no idea that the bullet had hit his concealed HTC EVO 3D until he pulled it out of his shirt pocket after complaining of chest pains.

"He didn't realize he'd been shot," said Allen who revealed that only minor injuries occurred. "It's a miracle he's able to be with us today because technically that round could have been life threatening."

Evidence photos reveal the bullet's entry point was at the smartphone's bottom half of the LCD display and its flight was stopped by the smartphone battery. Police has describe the gunman as a black male wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and pants, sunglasses, a bright yellow traffic vest and white gloves.

On HTC's Twitter account, the company revealed that it would send a care package to the individual who lost the phone that saved his life.
