A mysterious new teaser for a yet-unannounced PlayStation 4 game has been released on Sony's YouTube channel, and while it doesn't reveal much, all signs are pointing towards a resurrected PlayStation 3 game as being the chief suspect.

The incredibly brief teaser trailer shows a bloody snowflake spinning through the air before ending with the words #PlayStationGC, hinting at a reveal during the upcoming Gamesom convention in Cologne, Germany.

Speculation is that the unannounced game is a previously thought-to-be-dead PlayStation 3 horror title called Until Dawn, being developed by Supermassive. Until Dawn follows traditional slasher movie tropes, as a band of eight not-so-bright teens struggle to survive in a ski-lodge gone to hell. If it is following slasher films to the letter, expect there to be poorly timed sexual encounters and lots of bloodshed. Until Dawn was briefly listed on Sony's Gamescom site before quickly being taken down, leading many to believe that this is indeed the game being teased.

The bloody snowflake featured in the teaser trailer would certainly stay in line with Until Dawn's winter environments. The PlayStation 3 version of the game focused on using Sony's PlayStation Move controller to perform various on-screen actions, such as using a flashlight to explore dark tunnels, firing weapons or interacting with the environment to solve puzzles. Supermassive said that the game script was being penned by a Hollywood horror writer, though at the time the developer had yet to reveal exactly who the writer was. They also promised in 2012 that Until Dawn would include multiple endings depending on your choices, and that the eight teens will live or die according to player actions. Players can swap and play as any of the eight teens throughout the story. Unless they are dead, of course.

Sony revealed at GDC this year its work on a virtual reality headset called Project Morpheus, a piece of technology not so different from the Oculus Rift that allows for more immersive game experiences. It could be possible Sony has revamped Until Dawn to work with both the Move controller and Project Morpheus, giving Sony a killer-app when the headset potentially launches in the future.

Whether or not that will be the case, or whether the game in question is Until Dawn at all, is still up in the air, but we won't have to wait long for an official reveal. Gamescom starts Aug. 12.
