Nintendo decided to join the modern age and finally set up a Tumblr page for its company. However, as the Tumblr account is new, there isn't a lot of content available there yet.

The first post made by the company on Tumblr included an animated GIF from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past with a message stating that it is officially on Tumblr. The second post is a little lengthier (a whole two sentences) about the 1985 debut of Super Mario Bros., asking followers if they remember the first time they "took control of Mario and Luigi in a Super Mario Bros. game?"

Last December, Pokémon also got a Tumblr page, so it's likely the company decided to finally embrace that social media platform for its corporate identity, at least in North America. It's also possible that other Nintendo franchises might eventually get their own Tumblr pages, too.

This isn't the first time that Nintendo has embraced the social network: its first page was for Splatoon, a fun blog "live from Squid Research Lab."

However, please note that some of Nintendo's Tumblr posts could defy family friendliness at times.

"Welcome to the official Nintendo Tumblr!" states the page's official description. "ESRB Rating: Rating Pending to Mature. May contain content inappropriate for children. Visit www.esrb.org for rating information."

It's possible that Nintendo plans on increasing its appearances on social media, especially now that the company has announced Nintendo NX, its next major console, which promises to separate itself from the Wii and Wii U.

"If you look back to the beginning of our conversation today, we talked about the transition from Wii hardware to the Wii U hardware and how difficult it is to explain to the consumer base what is different and new about the new hardware," said Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima to Time. "It's difficult to convince them to switch from their current platform to the next platform. That being said, I can assure you we're not building the next version of Wii or Wii U," he continued. "It's something unique and different. It's something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal to our consumer base."
