Homefront: The Revolution will be released in North America on May 17, German video game publisher Deep Silver announced.

The upcoming open-world futuristic shooter will be launched on May 20 to other locations, and will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Gamers on the Xbox One, however, will get to try out Homefront: The Revolution earlier than those on other platforms as a beta exclusive to the Microsoft gaming console will be launched in February.

According to Deep Silver, it will team up with Microsoft to run promotions that will give interested players a chance to the try out the limited and closed beta version of the title. Xbox One owners may register their interest by signing up through the official website of the game, so that they will be alerted of events in the coming weeks wherein they can acquire an Xbox One Beta token that will be given away by Deep Silver and Microsoft.

Deep Silver has also released a new trailer featuring the Korean People's Army as it occupies Philadelphia in 2029. The video shows the Yellow Zones of Homefront: The Revolution, which have been described as areas that are densely populated by civilians who are living in constant fear of the events that are transpiring around them.

"A mix of Orwellian police state and ghetto slum, the People are kept under the heel of oppression through permanent surveillance, 24-hour propaganda, and an ever-constant military presence," said Deep Silver.

The Yellow Zones are where members of the Resistance fight their battles to drive away the invaders. Ethan Brady, the protagonist of the video game, is the leader of the resistance movement that is looking to repel the Korean invasion.

Homefront: The Revolution is being developed at Dambuster Studios, to which Deep Silver moved the title after acquiring the intellectual property to the game from Crytek UK. The title is the sequel to Homefront, which was released in 2011 and published by THQ. THQ, however, went bankrupt, and Crysis developer Crytek swooped in to acquire the franchise.

Dambuster Studios said that for Homefront: The Revolution, which was initially planned with a release date of 2015, everything is new, and that there is a reason behind the decision to not name the game simply as Homefront 2.

Homefront: The Revolution will have a single-player campaign mode and an online co-op mode where up to four gamers can play at once. The game was first designed to be a linear shooting game, but Crytek decided to transform the title into an open-world game.

The announced launch date of May 17 for Homefront: The Revolution confirms the leak Tech Times reported last week. Previously, the game had a release period of the first half of the year, with no specific date. However, a Target $1 preorder card that was spotted in the wild featured a release date of May 17 for the video game, and Deep Silver's announcement proves that the information was real.
