Every good hero needs a villain. And the pair of cops from "Powers" just got theirs.

Actor/comedian Eddie Izzard has been cast as Wolfe, a man imprisoned for his past crimes. He is also a Power, a person with superpowers, who has ties to protagonist Detective Christian Walker. Izzard is best known, besides from his stand-up act, from the "Ocean's Eleven" films or his recent stint on the "Hannibal" television show.

Noah Taylor, recently playing Roose Bolton's henchman Locke on "Game of Thrones," has also come on board to play another criminal that is a problem for the detectives at the heart of the show. Playing night club owner Johnny Royalle, another Power who uses his abilities for illegal gains.

"Powers" is based upon the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. In a world where superpowers exist, what would really happen? The series examines the crime that occurs within the superhero community, from the point of view of the two detectives that investigate such crimes, Detective Deena Pilgrim and Detective Walker. The tone of the comic is grittier and more realistic than the typical superhero book.

Other actors recently cast include Susan Heyward, who played Hannah on "The Following," as Detective Pilgrim. Olesya Rulin, from the "High School Musical" films, as Calista, a teenager saved by Walker. Adam Godley, known for his role as Elliot on "Breaking Bad," will play the detectives' boss Captain Cross. Max Fowler, who played Twitch on "The Killing," will play Krispin Stockley, the son of Detective Walker's former partner who was murdered.

It had already been announced that David Slade, director of episodes of "Hannibal" and "Breaking Bad," as well as films "30 Days of Night" and "Twilight: Eclipse," will direct the first two episodes of the series.

Sony has not yet announced who will be playing Detective Christian Walker.

The "Powers" comic book by Oeming and Bendis has run for over 90 issues since it began in 2000, switching from its first publisher Image Comics to its current publisher Marvel Comics in 2004.

"Powers" will debut on PlayStation Network in December, accessible via the PlayStation 3 or the PlayStation 4 game consoles. The first episode will be posted for free, but the remaining episodes will only be free for subscribers to Sony's service PlayStation Plus. The first season will have 10 episodes.
