Samus is known for wearing her bulky armor in Metroid games, but this time she is taking it off and showing gamers her casual self.

A new entry on Nintendo's Mii-verse social network from Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai shows the heroine wearing really short shorts and a sporty top, not unlike a sports bra. The outfit is seen in both orange and a dark blue. Another image shows Samus dressed in this summer sports outfit in the cartoony graphics of the 3DS version of the game.

Sakurai states in the post, "Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this... That's what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here's Samus in shorts!"

The last entry in the fighting game franchise, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii, featured "Zero Suit" Samus, where the adventurer has removed her space armor and is in a jump suit. This will be the first time that this version of the character drops the jump suit for real clothes, and reveal shorts and sports top at that.

Super Smash Bros., which is being released for both Nintendo console the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS portable, features a mix of characters from the company's franchises fighting it out in an area. Characters include Mario, Link, Kirby, Samus and Pikachu, as well as guest characters from franchises by other companies, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-man and Mega Man.

Samus is a female bounty hunter from the science fiction action series Metroid. There have been 12 such games, from the original Metroid for the Nintendo Entertainment System from 1986 to 2010's Metroid: Other M for the Nintendo Wii.

This is not the first time Sakurai has revealed new outfits for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games on Mii-verse. Last week he showed off two suits for the Mii fighters, including one wearing Samus's armor.

Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS portable will be released in the U.S. on October 3. Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is expected to be released by the end of the year.
