Nintendo's NX console is still a complete mystery for now, but if a recent rumor turns out to be true, players may be getting their hands on the machine much sooner than expected.

NeoGAF user Trevelyan9999 took to the popular gaming forum on Tuesday to post what he claims is Nintendo's U.S. marketing budget and product overview for 2016. Among the information provided by the user is a number of-as-of-yet unannounced games bearing various codenames, as well as previously-known titles.

Even more interesting is that Trevelyan9999 also states that the NX, which Nintendo has previously said would be coming in 2017, will actually release toward the end of 2016. Furthermore, the new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U will also launch for the NX around the same time.

Those are some bold claims, and so far, there hasn't been any evidence to back it up. Rumors like this come and go every day, after all, so nobody really thought twice about the rumor.

However, one new piece of information makes the user's claims much more credible. One of the codenames mentioned in the user's post is Pokemon "Niji," a new Pokemon game that the post claimed would be coming in 2016. Flash-forward to today, and Nintendo has just revealed Pokemon Sun and Moon, releasing holiday 2016.

This is where things get really interesting. As spotted by Kotaku, Nintendo hosted images for the Pokemon Moon and Sun logos used the word "Niji" in the file name as well, seeming to confirm that at least some of Trevelyan9999's information is indeed accurate. Press materials also used the "Niji" name, though Kotaku writes that Nintendo looks to have since changed the file names on their official sites.

Pretty convincing, no? It's hard to say for sure if all of the leak may turn out to be true, but as we wrote last week about the need for Nintendo to release Legend of Zelda Wii U on the NX (or at least make the NX backwards compatible), it wouldn't surprise us if the leaks did turn out to be accurate. Nintendo is set to officially unveil its new console this summer, so we'll have more answers soon. Until then, fans can continue to wildly speculate about what's in store for the house of Mario.
