There have been rumors that Green Lantern may appear in some form in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, presumably to help set up the Justice League film.

But that doesn't appear to be the case. According to Justice League and Batman v Superman producer Charles Roven (in an interview with EW), Green Lantern won't be appearing on film until the second Justice League film ... at the earliest.

"Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out," Roven says. "So there's the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2," said Roven. "For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after."

Greg Silverman, the president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros., seems to also indicate that fans might have to wait a while for Green Lantern to be done justice.

"There's real opportunity there," Silverman says. "We didn't do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they'll be really happy."

The Green Lantern Corps. film is set for a 2020 release date, with Justice League Part 2 scheduled to release in 2019. Nearly every other member of the League is set to appear in Batman v Superman, including Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg, so to have Green Lantern appear so late into the game would definitely make the character stand out.

Viewed in that context, it's hard to believe that Green Lantern won't be in Batman v Superman in some form. While it's likely true that Green Lantern the superhero won't be in Zack Snyder's latest film, it remains to be seen if Hal Jordan, the man behind the mask, will make an appearance. Dan Amboyer has long been rumored to be playing the character, but so far his exact role in Batman v Superman remains unclear.

Either way, fans won't have to wait too long to get some answers. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters March 25.
