Cryengine V is Crytek's latest 3D game engine version which the company recently launched and made available to developers at no charge.

Primarily designed for creating VR gaming experiences, Cryengine V is compatible with Windows, Xbox One, PS4, Linux and the Oculus Rift. Developers can also opt for the company's "Pay What You Want" business model, which allows full access to the engine's feature set along with a full engine source code. There is no obligation to pay any royalties or deal with extra service charges.

"Cryengine V represents our commitment to not only offering developers today's most advanced engine technology, but also to making it as accessible as possible," says Cevat Yerli, founder, president and CEO at Crytek.

Cryengine V features expanded support for the leading VR hardware available in the market today. Developers can now use Crytek's engine in making impressive VR experiences that users can enjoy in their Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, OSVR and PlayStation VR.

Other notable highlights of Cryengine V include CE# Framework, new Sandbox Editor, Improved Profiling, Reworked Low Overhead Renderer, DirectX 12 Support, Advanced Volumetric Cloud System, new particle system, a new launcher and UI, FMOD Studio support, Visual Studio 2015 Support and Cryengine Answers.

"With a new CE# Framework, anyone who knows C# can immediately start scripting in Cryengine V," says Cryengine. "Hot reloading DIIs allow for real-time development, and you don't have to restart the editor to make changes to the code. We've also added VR editor integration for in-app development."

In November, Crytek launched a graduate course that is solely dedicated to VR development following a partnership with VIGAMUS Academy/Link Campus University in Italy. Students of the graduate course will use Cryengine when creating virtual reality content. The course will also allow them to gain insight from the staff at Crytek, which is working on today's full-scale virtual reality productions.

Crytek's dedicated VR development team is one of the largest in the industry. One of the several projects included on the team's production pipeline will be known as Robinson: The Journey.

Other titles created by the company include the Crysis series, Ryse: Son of Rome, Far Cry, Hunt, Arena of Fate, The Collectables, Warface and Fibble.

"Building on over a decade of continued engine development and refinement, Cryengine is used by AAA and indie developers alike to build some of today's most ambitious games, while remaining 100 percent royalty-free to allow developers to reap the rewards of their hard work," adds Cryengine.
