The HTC 10 (One M10) has been making headlines on an almost daily basis, and the company is about to make it official. HTC has just announced it will be holding a press event on April 12.

Smartphone fans have some great new options with newly-released or upcoming devices from the biggest players in the smartphone game. Samsung released the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in early March, and in an attempt to push sales of the handsets, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint are already offering buy one/get one free promotions on the handsets.

LG is currently preparing to release the LG G5, which will hit T-Mobile and all other major U.S. carriers on April 1. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and the LG G5 all run the latest version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

iOS users also have a brand new smartphone to consider now that Apple has launched its first new four-inch iPhone since 2013's iPhone 5s. The iPhone SE features the same design as the iPhone 5s but includes some flagship features found in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, like an A9 processor and M9 coprocessor and 12 megapixel rear camera with the ability to capture 4K video and Live Photos. Preorders will begin on March 24, and the four-inch iPhone SE will ship on March 31.

It's now HTC's turn to release its next-generation 2016 flagship smartphone, the HTC 10, and the company just announced those intentions on Twitter.

We recently reported that sources claimed the HTC 10's launch date could be found in the leaked press renders of the smartphone's lock screen, which showed a date of April 19. It appears that date could apply to when the smartphone will go on sale, since HTC has announced its press event will take place a week earlier, on April 12.

The HTC 10 was recently spotted in the wild, and the images confirmed the handset would feature some design tweaks to its unibody aluminum case and sport a home button that will also serve as a fingerprint scanner.

Now that we know HTC will officially take the wraps off of the HTC 10 (One M10) on April 12, are you waiting for it, or purchasing another flagship smartphone? Please let us and our readers know in the comments below.
