The countdown to Huawei's press event has begun as April 6 draws near. The Taiwan-based company is widely anticipated to unveil the successor of its Huawei P8 smartphone, the Huawei P9, at the event in London.

As the anticipated debut nears, images of the flagship handset from Huawei have surfaced online yet again, offering a peek into the upcoming smartphone.

The images were acquired by Chinese publication MyDRivers, which claims that the images are the real deal. This is not the first time that images of the Huawei P9 smartphone have leaked online. Earlier in March, we reported that images of the device had popped up online, courtesy of noted leakster Evan Blass (@evleaks).

The current lot of leaked photographs of the Huawei P9 point to a metal body for the smartphone and affirm the rumor of the presence of a dual camera. Barely a week ago, we reported that the company's president was spotted using the Huawei P9. That image also showed off the dual cameras on the rear of the Android-powered flagship.

The present leaked images also show off the same flash unit located next to the cameras. Rumors have suggested that this could be a sensor or a laser autofocus system.

While the square-shaped fingerprint scanner on the device is present on the rear as in previous leaks, its edges seem more rounded. Overall, if one compares the design of the smartphone in this leak with those that surfaced earlier, then there is little to tell the handsets apart.

Code named "Eva," the Huawei P9 is the fifth handset in the P-series from the company. As Tech Times previously reported, the smartphone could launch in four variants: the P9 Lite, the P9 Max/P9 Plus, a standard 5.2-inch model and the feature-rich model.

The 5.2-inch model of the Huawei P9 is expected to have a 1,080p screen. Rumors have also pointed to a HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor for the device, as well as a Mali-T880 GPU. The Huawei P9 could also pack in 3 GB of RAM and a 3,900 mAh battery.

The smartphone's premium version is also anticipated to house the Kirin 955 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. The device will boast two 12-megapixel sensors with Leica-made lenses for better focus and image quality. The handset will also come equipped with a USB Type-C port to support data transfer and charging.

The storage capacity of the Huawei P9 is expected to be 32 GB for the basic version, whereas the premium variants may tout 64 GB or 128 GB. The device will come pre-loaded with Android Marshmallow.

The leaked listing of the smartphone on OppoMart revealed that the Huawei P9 would cost $499. With April 6 just around the corner, we will soon know what surprises Huawei has in store for us.
