LG's new advertisement for its G5 smartphone and its modular accessories, simply known as Friends, features action star Jason Statham.

The 1-minute advertisement is weird and quirky to say the least, and it does not help that it was released on April 1, of all days.

It begins with Statham using the LG G5 in a subway, and it is quickly revealed that all the other characters in the advertisement are also portrayed by him.

The advertisement, with Ievan Polkka playing in the background, features Stathams fighting in the subway, Stathams dancing in the middle of the street, Statham robbing a bank full of Stathams and Statham riding on top of a herd of bulls while wielding a fire extinguisher in each hand.

Over the course of the advertisement, various Stathams are shown using the LG G5's modular capabilities by using Friends for various purposes, including listening to music and recording videos. LG's virtual reality headset, 360-degree camera and ball-shaped robot also make an appearance.

The advertisement is not particularly truthful in this regard though, as it is known that when users attach one of their Friends to the LG G5, the smartphone will have to reboot. There is a quick note at the beginning of the advertisement that states that the LG G5 will have to be turned on manually after a battery change, but that note is quickly forgotten as the advertisement rolls on.

The quick swapping that the Stathams do on their LG G5 smartphones to use their Friends is not the biggest lie ever made in marketing, though it might better serve LG if they release an advertisement that clearly explains how users can operate the LG G5 and its Friends.

For the uninitiated, it would be difficult to understand what the various attachments do. The spoken lines at the end that describe the LG G5 as the first smartphone with a modular design and "built for fun" does not really clarify any questions about the device.

That said, the advertisement is a funny and memorable one. Nobody can forget a universe of infinite Jason Stathams that easily.
