Ryan Reynolds, Tim Miller, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are enjoying a staggering success after they managed to piece together a proper, albeit R-Rated, Deadpool movie which finally made it to cinemas on Feb. 12 - after a decade of consistently trying to get studios to produce it - and it is so successful that it even took home the top spot as the highest grossing X-Men film of all time. Now, Gavin Hood, director of X-men Origins: Wolverine with the botched Deadpool cameo, speaks about why the new Deadpool was successful.

It is no secret that every Deadpool fan pretty much disliked the way he was portrayed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine that it even frustrated Ryan Reynolds. But according to an interview with Hood, it seems the director of the Wolverine origins movie was also unhappy about the whole fiasco and that he is glad now that Reynolds and his team were able to finally salvage the Merc with a Mouth's character.

"I think the character works so well now, because the character is allowed to be who the character really is, unencumbered by, you know, PG-13 requirements [...] and it's very difficult with these big movies [...] when you have to work within certain parameters that are set by [... Studio Heads]," Hood shares.

He also added that the Hollywood Writers' Strike that was happening when X-Men Origins: Wolverine was being filmed prevented the script from being properly changed, especially when the decision to expand Wolverine's story was made.

He also added that Deadpool's cameo in his film was more of the studio's attempt to test waters and plug in characters. This is perhaps a way for it to determine which new characters can be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but, now that the waters have been tested and Reynolds' solo movie was the more successful one, we just hope the studio learned a lesson about messing with beloved comic book characters. Lesson number one: Do not sew shut the merc with a mouth's mouth.

Hood also extended his compliments to Reynolds and his production team for their success and for being able to finally show Deadpool for what he truly is.
