iFixit is on the mission to build free repair manuals for almost any consumer electronic and gadget. Through its detailed and descriptive guides, it teaches how you can repair your own gear. It also makes you aware of the components and parts that your gadget is carrying through its famous 'teardown'. This time it got its hands to teardown the newly launched Sony Playstation 4 (PS4).

PS4 console has got an update seven years after the PlayStation 3 was launched in 2006. Gamers had high expectation from the video gaming console and seems like Sony didn't disappoint.

It is first time ever when a PlayStation will feature a AMD processor instead of conventional cell architectures used in PlayStation 3 (PS3) and previous models. The console has been married to cloud based gaming experience.

In the teardown, PS4 appears to be carrying bunch of best hardwares in it. The build quality is also impressive with lesser screws and no adhesive. On iFixit's repairability score, the console managed to get 8 out of 10, and that's pretty impressive.

PS4 carries a hard drive which is user-replaceable. Just a few screws and a plastic cover are all that stands in the way. Unexpectedly, the PS4 is not going to support external USB storage, which means Sony intended it to be more like a console and less like a media center.

The fan of PS4 also ran smoother and quieter in comparison to previous models, iFixit said.

The power supply unit is rated at an AC input of 100-240 volts. This rating ensures that the user can carry his console with him to any part of the world (so long he brings along your power socket adapters).

The tamper-evident stickers and Security Torx screws might act as a deterrent to the average user who wants to pry the console open. However, iFixit has here a step-by-step teardown guide which will help the user with that too.
