Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, officially told the media that the Mi Band 2 is indeed coming out at the beginning of June.

During a recent press conference, Xiaomi presented its most recent phablet, the Mi Max, and alongside it comes the MIUI 8 version of its mobile OS. The event was supposed to showcase the Mi Band 2 as well, but the wearable got postponed.

However, the next few weeks will see the rollout of more devices carrying the Xiaomi brand. One notable bit of information is that the company will release a drone before the end of May.

Xiaomi's CEO recently showed the first real images of the fitness band. He also apologized for the fact that the Mi Band 2 will not be ready for display bundled with the Mi Max and the MIUI 8 because of production issues. Lei noted that the wristband will face only one month of delay, which places the release of the device sometime at the beginning of June.

A few notable differences exist between the old model and the upcoming Mi Band 2. The latter holsters an LCD screen that can display different relevant fitness information to its users. They will be able to instantly check their heart rate and activity levels on the wearable, which also doubles as a wristwatch. The display is designed to make the wristband less dependent on having a smartphone nearby.

To further increase the customization options for the Mi Band 2, the company made the wearable's LCD removable.

Leaks showed that the new fitness band from Xiaomi comes with a circular physical button, which could enable various features.

Sources who wanted to stay anonymous claim that the wristband could actually control Xiaomi's drone, but we would take this detail with a grain of salt.

What is clear is that the Mi Band 2 comes with a silicone band, keeping the aesthetics of the new gadget close to the one from previous iterations. The new wearable should fall into the affordable price range, following the good example of its previous models.

As a reminder, both the Mi Band and Mi Band 1 came with price points under $20.
