Right on time, Lenovo took the wraps off its latest Moto G4 and G4 Plus at its May 17 event and there's plenty to be excited about.

The two handsets arrive as the successors to the third-generation Moto G, and come as the first two devices under the new Lenovo Moto brand.

While the Moto G4 Plus name might suggest a larger screen size compared to the "regular" Moto G4, that's not the case. Both smartphones look nearly identical and feature 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) displays, marking a notable improvement over the 5-inch HD (720p) screens of the second- and third-generation Moto G.

The new Moto G4 and G4 Plus also double down on processing power, while the storage and RAM departments get considerable boosts as well. Let's see what the two handsets have to offer.

Moto G4

The Moto G4 sports a 5.5-inch display, as mentioned above, and that full HD resolution translates to a pixel density of 401 ppi. Gorilla Glass 3 rests on top of the display for protection and scratch-resistance.

Under the hood, the Moto G4 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal locker space. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 5-megapixel front shooter with 84-degree wide-angle lens, a 3,000 mAh battery with TurboPower rapid charging support, and dual-SIM.

The Moto G4 also comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G LTE connectivity options, as well as VoLTE support. As expected, the handset runs Android Marshmallow out of the box, with the Moto Pure software on top.

Moto G4 Plus

The beefed up Moto G4 Plus shares many specs and features with the Moto G4, but with a few notable differences.

First off, the Moto G4 Plus features a fingerprint scanner, whereas the Moto G4 does not. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the front of the G4 Plus, right below the display, and can support up to five fingerprints.

The G4 Plus model also rocks a more powerful 16-megapixel rear camera with an OmniVision sensor, laser autofocus, Phase Detection autofocus, and a neat Professional mode.

Another notable difference refers to available configurations. While the Moto G4 only offers a 16 GB option with 2 GB of RAM, the G4 Plus comes in an additional configuration that packs 32 GB of storage and a heftier 3 GB of RAM.

Both smartphones feature slim builds, sleek metal trims and a good grip thanks to the textured rear panel.

Pricing And Availability

Both the Moto G4 and G4 Plus will be exclusive to Amazon India. The company has yet to announce specific pricing details for the Moto G4, as it will not go on sale until next month. The G4 Plus, however, goes on sale at midnight and costs INR 13,500 ($200) for the base model with 16 GB storage and 2 GB RAM and INR 15,000 ($225) for the 32 GB model with 3 GB of RAM.

We have no word on a U.S. launch yet, but two Moto devices recently received FCC certification, so a release stateside could be just around the corner.
