For those who have found it hard to invest time and effort into another digital distribution platform, Good Old Games (GOG) has launched GOG Connect to mitigate migration to its DRM-free application.

Developer and publisher Valve has, in just over a decade, established itself as the PC gaming community's primary platform for digital games. EA and Ubisoft have found success in their Origin and Uplay platforms, using their top IPs as bait, but Witcher studio CD Projekt Red has gained a foothold on the market doing what its competitors are trying to avoid.

When GOG launched in 2008, more commonly known as Good Old Games back then, the company established DRM-free games as a pillar of its business model. With no game verification system in place, GOG users could play their games online or offline until the end of time.

The recently launched GOG Connect will import DRM-free games from Steam into users' GOG libraries, no charges or strings associated or attached. The migration service, however, won't support Steam saves, friends lists or achievements.

Through partnerships with the likes of Deep Silver and TaleWorlds, GOG has been able to secure at least 20 games that are eligible for importation from Steam libraries. However, GOG users will want to keep track of the GOG Connect website for a live list of titles.

"The available games will come and go," says GOG, adding that they are limited-time offers made available by publishers and developers. So users will want to get the games from the get-go.
