Bumblebee is one of the most notable characters in the Tranformers franchise and the beloved autobot just got an upgrade in time for his appearance in Tranformers: The Last Knight.

On June 4, Michael Bay took to his website to unveil the new and improved Bumblebee. Well, his car form at least.

Bumblebee first appeared as a beat-up 1977 Camaro in Transformers, which came out in 2007. Over the past 10 years, the autobot has undergone various updates to both his car and robot form, with the most recent putting him in the shoes of a custom-built 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

The coming lineup of three movies in the Transformers franchise was announced in February, with Transformers 5 being billed as a Bumblebee spin-off. Transformers: The Last Knight is the fifth in the series and will be Bay's last time directing for the franchise.

Does this mean the movie will be bigger than ever?

Bay has always had an affinity for over-the-top explosions and, while that does irk many moviegoers, it's a formula that has always worked so it's not a stretch to assume that the director will be falling back on this move once again. The first four Transformers movies, all directed by the man, did rake in $3.8 billion in the global box office following this formula, after all.

However, Transformers: The Last Knight will be his last in the franchise so it's also possible that Bay might decide to take a different route to round up his time with the Transformers.

Production has started for the movie in Havana, Cuba, and marks only the second time that a major Hollywood production is being done in the country after economic sanctions were lifted by the United States. Other portions of the film will be shot in London and Detroit.

Mark Wahlberg will be reprising his role as Cade Yeager in the fifth installment of the Transformers. He will be joined by Josh Duhamel, Jerrod Carmichael, Isabela Moner and Anthony Hopkins.

Transformers: The Last Night is set to come out on June 23, 2017, going head-to-head with Wonder Woman.
