Fruit Ninja's game developer Halfbrick Studios has confirmed that the game is coming to virtual reality (VR).

Halfbrick Studios released the Android and iOS versions of Fruit Ninja in 2010 and since then the game has become one of the most enjoyable as well as addictive games for mobile devices. With the popularity of the game on iOS and Android, the Australian game developer also launched a Windows Phone version of Fruit Ninja in December 2010.

The Fruit Ninja app is available as a free download from Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The Android version of the game weighs 122 MB and requires a device running on Android 3.0 or above. The iOS version of Fruit Ninja weighs 90.4 MB and requires an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch with iOS 7.0 or later.

While previous reports have suggested that a Fruit Ninja movie is also in the works, Halfbrick Studios is now extending the success of the game to VR platform. The game developer has announced that the VR version of the game will be available for HTC Vive, Sony PlatStation VR, Oculus Rift and Google Daydream.

"After the latest VR technology was released, we felt that there was no better game suited to VR than Fruit Ninja," said Adam Wood, product manager of Fruit Ninja VR, Halfbrick Studios. "The simplicity of Fruit Ninja with the total immersion of VR creates an experience like no other."

Fruit Ninja is a simple game with minimal controls. Slashing fruits on a touchscreen has entertained many gamers over the last few years. Fruit Ninja has been downloaded about 1 billion times and its foray in VR may increase the popularity of the game even further.

The game has three modes: Zen, Arcade and Classic. All these modes will be available in Fruit Ninja VR along with a PvP mode. The game developer has not revealed anything about the PvP mode, but it seems this mode will allow two players to slash fruits at the same time.

Reports suggest that Fruit Ninja VR for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive will be released as early as June. However, Google Daydream and PlayStation VR versions of the game are expected to roll out later this year.

Halfbrick Studios has set up a webpage for Fruit Ninja VR. Gamers who want to know more about the launch and pricing of the game can leave their email and they will get updates when available.
