Serious Sam is jumping on the virtual reality bandwagon. The studio behind the Serious Sam franchise, Croteam, recently revealed its newest offering, this time around in the burgeoning world of VR: the Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope.

The studio announced the VR version of the game during the PC Gaming Show on June 13.

Devolver Digital also showed off a trailer for the VR shooter via Twitter showcasing what is in store for excited fans of the series.

Gamers are said to be given access to a wide array of weapons, such as rocket launchers, assault rifles, pistols and Gatling guns. It is said that players' ammo count is shown on their virtual guns. Moreover, these weapons can be upgraded between various missions by means of in-game currency, making the gameplay a bit more stimulating.

In terms of enemies, the trailer hints that gamers will have to face classic Serious Sam foes, including Gnaar and Beheaded Kamikaze. But, of course, the new game will also treat players with a few more new enemies.

Built With Liquid VR Technology

Tom's Hardware reports that AMD's boss, Dr. Lisa Su, was present during the PC Gaming Show at E3. She said the VR game is built with the company's so-called Liquid VR technology. In simple terms, the tech packed into this game is aimed to boost VR performance plus trim down latency. All in all, this is a welcome treat for players of this game as it certainly results in a more refined user experience. This makes the new Serious Sam game the first one to make use of this nifty feature.

Availability

It is important to note that Serious Sam VR will head to Steam Early Access this coming summer for both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

What Else Is New In This VR Game?

For those who wish to know more about what else the studio is offering to its gamers, here is a run-through of what they have to expect:

– new difficulty mode
– introduction of player skill tree
– more bosses, weapons, enemies and power-ups
– more planets with an array of in-world locations
– shielding ability

The developer underscores in a tweet that this VR game is secondary to Serious Sam 4, the company's present project which it has been cooking up since 2013.

To date, Croteam has already pushed out five Serious Sam games. The list includes the original game, the sequel and the remastered versions of these games. Serious Sam 3: BFE, which was released to the public in 2011, is the studio's latest installment prior to the Serious Sam VR. When it was released, the company announced that it is fitted with an all-new graphics engine.
