Red Dead Redemption sales saw a whopping spike after Rockstar confirmed that the game will join the Xbox One backward compatibility list.

Ever since Xbox One backward compatibility became available, Red Dead Redemption has been the third most highly requested games to be supported. The huge demand following the confirmation stands proof that the title is a huge hit with backward compatibility under its belt.

After the announcement, Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption - Game of the Year Edition sales skyrocketed by nearly 8,000 percent. More specifically, Amazon's Movers & Shakers list keeps track of sales rankings and notes a whopping 5,789 percent increase in Red Dead Redemption sales and a 2,181 percent increase in sales of Red Dead Redemption - Game of the Year Edition for Xbox One. Combined, that translates to a 7,970 percent increase.

It's also worth pointing out that the game used to be No. 1,119 on the sales rank list prior to the Xbox One backward compatibility announcement, but it has since cozied up to a higher position, now ranking as the 19th most popular video game. The Red Dead Redemption - Game of the Year Edition for Xbox One used to be on No. 753, but is now on No. 33.

The game will launch as part of Microsoft's Xbox One Backward Compatibility program on July 8. As with all backward compatible titles, those who own a digital copy Red Dead Redemption should also find it in their "Ready to Install" list of games come Friday, while those who have it on disc will simply need to insert the disc into the Xbox One to install the game.

Those who do not own the game just yet, but would like to get it now that it's about to support Xbox One backward compatibility, can take advantage of Microsoft's Xbox Ultimate Game Sale and get it at a discount.

With the limited-time sale this week, Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360 costs $7.50 for Gold members and it goes up to $10.50 for all others.

Seeing Red Dead Redemption added to the growing list of Xbox One backward-compatible games sparks hopes of seeing other highly requested titles become supported in the future. The two games that had more votes than Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox Feedback site are Call of Duty: Black Ops II and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Will these two games be the next ones to get backward compatibility? We sure hope so. In the meantime, drop by our comment section below and tell us which other games you'd like to see added to the list.
