The ZTE Axon 7 launched back in May and it's now ready to reach the United States, with preorders now officially open.

The Axon 7 is the company's most advanced smartphone to date and boasts high-end specs and features all around, shaping up as a worthy rival to the OnePlus 3. That's because one variant of the Axon 7 packs 6 GB of RAM like the OnePlus 3, but that's not the version currently on presale. Even so, it still offers a great mix of power and affordability.

Starting on Wednesday, July 13, the ZTE Axon 7 is available for preorder in the United States at a $399.98 price point unlocked, which is impressively affordable for the specs it has to offer.

For those unfamiliar with the handset, the ZTE Axon 7 sports a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and Gorilla Glass 4 protection and packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with Adreno 530 graphics.

The handset comes in two configurations: either 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. ZTE's website currently lists only the base version, with no mention of when or if the higher-end configuration will become available.

Other specs of the ZTE Axon 7 include a 20-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel selfie cam, a 3,250 mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, a USB Type-C port and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The ZTE Axon 7 also aims to deliver a superior audio experience with two dedicated sound chips and software optimized for "better sonic quality" at lower volume, louder bass and higher dynamic ranges.

Moreover, the ZTE Axon 7 follows the Nexus 6P as the second smartphone to be Daydream-ready, supporting Google's new virtual reality platform. On the software side of things, the Axon 7 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

All in all, the ZTE Axon 7 is shaping up as an impressive powerhouse and that $399.98 price tag unlocked is definitely tempting for what the handset has to offer. Aside from ZTE's own website, the Axon 7 is also up for preorder at Best Buy, Amazon, Newegg and B&H.

As for shipping, the ZTE Axon 7 will start making its way to customers later this month. More specifically, the Quartz Gray version will ship out on July 17, while the Ion Gold variant will follow on July 27. The company is also throwing in a free Clear View Folio case for the first 500 preorder customers to further sweeten the deal.
