Samsung is set to launch the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 7 phablet on Aug. 2. Rumors suggest that the Korean company may also launch a new Gear VR headset along with the smartphone.

Virtual reality (VR) has been gaining a lot of popularity in the tech industry. Many companies, including Samsung, have launched headmounts to let users experience VR content. In collaboration with Oculus, Samsung released the Gear VR in November 2015, which can be used with select Samsung smartphones including the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Customers just have to flip in a compatible handset in the VR headset and enjoy VR.

"We've redefined virtual reality and created the best mobile VR experience available today," said Brendan Iribe, the CEO of Oculus. "On Gear VR, people are playing immersive VR games with friends, sharing 360 video experiences and teleporting around the world with photos and videos - and it's only the beginning for what's possible with mobile VR."

Phonesreview reports that a device with the model number SM-R323 was spotted at an Indian export and import tracking website called Zauba in early July. However, nothing is known about the listed accessory.

The publication has posted a blurred image of the Gear VR 2 and suggested that the accessory may launch during the Unpacked event with the Galaxy Note 7.

The leaked image shows the Gear VR 2 in a black color option, but a white model is also possible. According to the leaked image, the focus wheel is placed on the top of the headset.

Rumors suggest that the Gear VR 2 will have a Micro USB port. A previous Tech Times report highlighted that the Galaxy Note 7 will include a USB Type-C port, which means that the two devices will not be compatible without an adapter. However, Samsung may make slight adjustments to the Gear VR 2 and make it compatible with the upcoming Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung may enhance the lens and sensors of the next-gen Gear VR and improve the overall user experience. The company may also add improved functionality to the Gear VR.

The original Gear VR was launched for $99 in the United States. However, rumors speculate that the new model will be priced slightly lower at about $90.

The Unpacked event is just around the corner and Samsung device fans will have to wait just a few more days to see if the company launches a new Gear VR along with the Galaxy Note 7.
